Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro closed 2025 with a historic record: 16.9 million passengers, a growth of 6.3% compared to the previous year, confirming Porto as one of the fastest-growing airports in Portugal.
For 2026, the strategy for attracting air traffic includes 21 new routes, raising the number of destinations served directly from Porto during the summer to more than 130.
Of particular note are six new intercontinental routes, including the direct connection between Porto and New York (JFK), operated by Delta Air Lines since May, a milestone in the city's international connectivity.
To keep pace with this growth, ANA has completed the modernisation of the runway, an investment of 50 million euros, and has works underway in the terminal, including new check-in areas, dedicated security lanes and a specific channel for families and passengers with reduced mobility.
The medium-term ambition is to transform Porto into a 30-million-passenger airport, with the construction of 14 new boarding gates already planned for the coming years.
For those travelling to Porto, this growth translates into more direct connections and greater ease of access to the city, which is increasingly closer to the European and intercontinental air map — and just a few minutes by metro from the historic centre.
